We have a 4 year old.
The pictures below are where we "live".
The toy room is in our basement, our family room is down here, we even eat our meals down here probably 75% of the time. We watch 95% of our television/movies down here too, that is why this is where we opted to put our larger television.
In addition to all that, this is our 1 area of our home that is still a work in progress. I plan to make fun, bright, bold curtains for the windows. I also plan to take down the 'saloon doors' that lead into the laundry/storage area and replace those with a fun curtain as well. This room is just kind of stark and definitely needs some interest. We would love to figure out a way to hang something on the walls that are made of cinder block as well, but haven't quite figured out how we're going to make that work yet.
So, like I said, I am just being real in these pictures. I took the pictures with the room as is. I didn't pick up the toys strewn on the floor, nor did I fold the blankets nicely.
So here you have it.
Our basement/family room and Tate's toy room.
It's casual to say the least, but we love it down here!
Our big island is so nice for meals and game playing. In the back right corner you will see our mini fridge. We love having it down here. It's super handy. The back left, you will see a table and chairs. This is Tate's 'craft table' and he sits at it ALL THE TIME. He loves art. Back behind that is his toy room.
Tate's toy room.
This is actually pretty picked up for him! Probably because I took this picture in the morning before he had completely destroyed it. I love having a toy room! For the first time since he was a baby, his toys are actually all organized! A drawer for art supplies, a drawer for 'guys', a drawer for cars, a drawer for all his tools/Handy Manny stuff, a bin for Toy Story stuff, a bin for balls...I think you get the idea.
And here is the view of the basement from standing by the island. The stairs lead up into the kitchen. The super stylish saloon doors on the right of this picture lead to the laundry/furnace/storage area.
So there you have it.
I will post pictures of our bedroom area later. Sean works tonight and is upstairs sleeping in it as I type this, so that will have to wait.

Hey, maybe you can ask the landlord if you can paint something on that wall above the couch downstairs??!! Sounds like FUN to me!!! : )
Horray to IKEA furniture that's been in storage:)
Paint in the basement would be good...your mom would be the perfect person to help you pick something out:)
